Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, speaking at a cabinet briefing in Delhi, announced the approval of a major infrastructure project involving the expansion of the Dangaposi–Jaroli railway section on the Jharkhand–Odisha border. The project includes the construction of a third and fourth railway line along this important freight corridor.

Vaishnaw said the upgraded railway section will significantly enhance cargo-handling capacity. “The railway will be able to carry an additional 50 million tonnes of cargo and save around 3.85 crore litres of diesel,” he noted. The expansion is aimed at improving freight movement from mineral-rich regions, particularly for sectors such as coal, iron ore, and steel.

Describing the engineering scale of the project, the minister highlighted its complexity, which includes the construction of 10 major bridges and 196 minor bridges. The project is expected to improve logistics efficiency, reduce dependence on diesel-powered transport, and support economic activity in the eastern region.

The Dangaposi–Jaroli section is strategically located in a mineral belt that supports major industries in Jharkhand and Odisha. With this development, Indian Railways seeks to increase both capacity and sustainability, aligning with broader goals of infrastructure modernization and green transportation.
