New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR in connection with a massive bitcoin-based ponzi scam against Amit Bhardwaj, Ajay Bhardwaj, and several others. The scam reportedly involves the collection of approximately 80,000 bitcoins and the diversion of funds worth a staggering Rs 6,606 crore.

According to CBI sources, the accused individuals allegedly routed the funds through nine overseas firms. These firms were used to facilitate the purchase of high-value properties abroad, raising significant concerns about money laundering and illegal financial activities on an international scale.

The agency has summoned Gaurav Mehta to join the investigation, aiming to uncover the extent of his involvement and gather critical details about the financial transactions and networks involved in the scam.

Amit Bhardwaj, a key accused, has previously been associated with high-profile cryptocurrency scams and controversial ventures. His alleged role in this ponzi scheme highlights the growing misuse of cryptocurrencies for fraudulent activities and international money laundering.

The scam underscores the challenges law enforcement agencies face in tackling financial crimes involving digital currencies, which often operate beyond conventional regulatory frameworks. The CBI's investigation aims to trace the diverted funds, identify other potential suspects, and recover assets acquired through the scam.

This case also sheds light on the need for stringent regulations and oversight mechanisms to prevent the misuse of emerging financial technologies. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
