Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday carried out a rescue operation in Akhnoor, safely evacuating 44 civilians who had been stranded due to heavy flooding in the region. The operation was conducted using a BSF helicopter under challenging conditions, officials confirmed.
According to BSF authorities, rising water levels in low-lying areas of Akhnoor had trapped several families, making immediate intervention necessary. Responding swiftly, a BSF rescue team was mobilized, and an air evacuation was executed to bring the affected villagers to safer locations.
Officials stated that the timely action prevented potential casualties and brought much-needed relief to those affected by the floods. “Our priority was to ensure that no lives were lost. Despite adverse conditions, the operation was carried out successfully,” a senior BSF officer said.
The evacuated civilians have been shifted to safer shelters, where they are being provided with basic relief and assistance. Local administration teams are coordinating with the BSF to ensure continued support for affected families.
