BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj recently spoke out on the critical role of political empowerment in advancing women’s overall empowerment in India. She stated that while financial, digital, technological, and social empowerment are important, they can only reach their full potential when women are politically empowered.
“The 'matri shakti' of our country has a very important role to play in the 'neeti nirman' (policy making), and they should be given their due chance,” Swaraj emphasized during her address. She praised the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in Parliament, which provides 33% reservation for women in state legislative assemblies and the Indian Parliament, marking a significant step toward women’s political inclusion.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to further empower women, Swaraj noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ensured that the names of mothers are included in essential identity documents such as passports and PAN cards. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured that the mother's name is included in all identity proofs, be it passport or PAN card,” she remarked, underscoring the importance of recognizing women’s contributions in all spheres.
Swaraj’s comments reflect the government’s continued commitment to enhancing women’s participation in political and public life, a critical aspect of fostering gender equality and empowerment in India.
