Railway officials brief PM and HM on Balasore tragedy

It is more or less certain that the Balasore train tragedy is one of the worst in the history of India. Unofficially, around 300 persons are dead and 1000 are injured and shifted to hospitals in Bengal and Odisha.

It is more or less certain that the Balasore train tragedy is one of the worst in the history of India. Unofficially, around 300 persons are dead and 1000 are injured and shifted to hospitals in Bengal and Odisha. The Member, operations and business, Railway Board, Jaya Sinha Verma briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah about the incident.

She explained the manner in which the incident could have occured based on information that has been made available so far to the railway board. The Prime Minister is rushing to Odisha to take stock of the situation. Coromandel Express derailed and few bogies fell on track alongside where Yeshwantpur Express coming from opposite direction collided leading to mangling of bogies. A few bogies went and hit a stationary Goods train nearby.
