Speaking exclusively to ANM News, BSF Punjab Frontier Inspector General Atul Fulzele confirmed that a jawan had inadvertently crossed into Pakistan and was taken into custody. "Today we had a flag meeting with Pak Rangers but to no avail. They are saying they would take instructions from higher authorities," Fulzele said. He assured that "all efforts are on to ensure his safe and early return."
The jawan, Constable Purnab Kumar Shaw of the 24th Battalion, crossed the zero line in Punjab's Ferozepur sector on Wednesday while guarding farmers harvesting wheat across the cobra fence. Shaw, in uniform and armed with his service rifle, was detained by Pakistan Rangers.
