Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has intensified his criticism of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, alleging that Gogoi visited Pakistan for 15 days and questioning the citizenship status of his children. Sarma emphasized that visiting Pakistan is a serious matter, stating, "Going to Pakistan is a crime."

Sarma further claimed, "I have evidence that Gaurav Gogoi's son and daughter are not Indian citizens. We are examining what he did there (Pakistan) for 15 days. There is no tourism place in Pakistan; it is only a terrorist adda," highlighting concerns over national security.

The Chief Minister also raised questions about Gogoi's wife's employment, alleging that she receives a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while residing in India. Sarma demanded clarification on whether Gogoi had consulted his children regarding their citizenship status.

In response, Gaurav Gogoi dismissed these allegations as baseless and politically motivated. He emphasized his commitment to addressing pressing issues in Assam, such as rising school dropout rates and child labor, and challenged Sarma to prove the claims made against him.

Sarma has announced plans to meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss these allegations and seek answers regarding Gogoi's actions. He stated, "I will meet Kharge with all this information. We will need answers."
