Jammu: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Tuesday underscored the transformative impact of the abrogation of Article 370, emphasizing how it has removed longstanding inequalities and cemented the union territory’s integration with the rest of India.
Speaking on the matter, Sinha highlighted the paradoxical restrictions imposed by the erstwhile provision. "A law (Article 370) because of which an Army jawan from any other part of the country could sacrifice his life for the nation but couldn’t buy a piece of land in Jammu and Kashmir. The President of India, the nation’s first citizen, could build a house anywhere else in the country but not in J&K," he remarked.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed that the abrogation has brought clarity to J&K’s constitutional and territorial identity. "Now it has become clear that J&K is a part of India like any other state or region," he asserted, reflecting on the new era of equality and integration that the move has ushered in.
Since the removal of Article 370 in August 2019, the central government has introduced various reforms to promote development, investments, and social harmony in the region. Sinha’s comments reflect the administration's ongoing efforts to ensure J&K's full integration into the Indian Union while addressing historical grievances and creating opportunities for its residents.
