Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that the government has decided to name Ahmednagar district after Ahilya Devi Holkar. He said, "Ahilya Devi Holkar's work and achievements were very great. Her self-sacrifice for the common people is well known. During that time she established systems like land, revenue, agriculture, currency system, postal service. She devoted her entire life to the welfare of farmers and common people. did". The chief minister also said, "The soil on which she was born owes a lot to her".
