New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Guru Tegh Bahadur on the 350th anniversary of his martyrdom, calling the ninth Sikh Guru a towering figure who upheld spiritual values and safeguarded religious freedom in the face of tyranny. In his message, Shah highlighted the Guru’s unparalleled courage and the profound spiritual depth that defined his life.

“Paying homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur on his 350th martyrdom day,” Shah said, noting that the revered Sikh Guru not only pursued deep spiritual practices but also conducted divine congregations that touched countless lives. Shah emphasised that Guru Tegh Bahadur stood as a symbol of resilience and righteousness during a period marked by persecution and brutality.

The Home Minister underscored that the Guru’s supreme sacrifice—offered to protect the right of individuals to practise their faith freely—remains a cornerstone of India’s cultural and civilisational ethos. “He protected his culture and faith from cruel invaders in a single lifetime,” Shah stated, adding that the Guru’s actions continue to inspire generations to uphold the principles of freedom, justice and communal harmony.
