New Delhi, June 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the Conference of Relief Commissioners and Disaster Response Forces from across the country, emphasized the need for a united national approach to disaster management. He credited recent successes to the synergy between central, state, and local governments, and the increasing involvement of society at large.
“We have increased participation. The central, state, and local governments collectively stand against disaster,” Shah said. “Now, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, we have been able to associate society too with disaster management.”
Shah noted that disaster risk reduction is no longer a government-only responsibility but a collective national movement. “In the coming times, we will witness every individual standing up for disaster management,” he said, pointing to a shift in policy that now embraces a multi-dimensional approach.
He praised the integration of various stakeholders, including scientists, security forces, civil defence, and local governing bodies, as key to India's advancements in mitigating disaster risks. “This achievement is not of one department or government—it’s of the entire nation. It shows that coordinated efforts can lead to big results,” he said.
