New Delhi | Congress leader Ajay Maken has dismissed allegations made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that an unofficial understanding exists between the BJP and Congress to prevent AAP from gaining power in Delhi. Maken countered these accusations by asserting that the BJP is the primary beneficiary of the current political setup in the capital.

"This is wrong. Why would the BJP do this?" Maken stated, emphasizing that the BJP at the national level benefits from Kejriwal's governance in Delhi. He went on to explain the power dynamics in Delhi, saying, "In Delhi, everyone knows that the Lieutenant Governor is the most powerful person, and most powerful administrator because he controls the land, law, and order. The police and land, DDA both are with the Lieutenant Governor as per the constitution."

Maken continued, highlighting that despite Arvind Kejriwal being the Chief Minister, the real administrative control rests with the Lieutenant Governor, who is appointed by the BJP-led central government. "Even if Kejriwal is the Chief Minister, exact actual power remains with the LG," he said.

The Congress leader further explained that the BJP benefits politically when Congress is weakened in Delhi, particularly in Lok Sabha elections. "If Congress gets weakened in Delhi, in Lok Sabha BJP wins all seven seats. During Sheila ji's time, whenever we were in power in Delhi, we used to win all the seven seats of Delhi," Maken remarked.

Refuting the idea of a tacit alliance, Maken concluded, "If we had a tacit understanding, then the BJP would never want Congress to be strong in Delhi because as soon as Congress becomes strong, the BJP cannot win seven seats in Lok Sabha elections."
