New Delhi: Air India CEO Campbell Wilson on Monday responded to the preliminary findings of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) regarding a recent Air India plane crash, stating that no mechanical, maintenance, or procedural lapses were identified as contributing factors.
“The Preliminary Report found no mechanical or maintenance issues with the aircraft or engines, and that all mandatory maintenance tasks had been completed,” Wilson said. He added that the report also confirmed no abnormalities in the fuel quality or the aircraft’s take-off roll. “The pilots had passed their mandatory pre-flight breathalyser and there were no observations pertaining to their medical status,” he noted.
The AAIB report provides initial clarity on the cause of the incident, which has drawn public and regulatory attention in recent weeks. While investigations are ongoing, the early findings rule out several potential technical and human error factors.
Wilson also highlighted the airline's proactive safety measures in the aftermath of the crash. “Out of an abundance of caution and under the oversight of the DGCA, every Boeing 787 aircraft operating in our fleet was checked within days of the accident and all were found fit for service,” he said. “We continue to perform all necessary checks, as we will any new ones that authorities may suggest.”
