Ahmedabad, June 17 — In the wake of the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, authorities have ensured a seamless and compassionate response to support grieving families. Prashant Jilova, Regional Commissioner of Municipalities, Ahmedabad, detailed the extensive arrangements made for DNA sampling and emotional counselling to help relatives of the victims.

“Arrangements were made for DNA sampling for all relatives and family members,” said Jilova. “We set up five tables, each staffed with microbiologists and health teams comprising 5–6 members. The process was streamlined, with each DNA sample taking just about a minute, ensuring minimal discomfort during an already distressing time.”

Acknowledging the emotional toll and chaos on the day of the incident, officials also established a dedicated counselling centre. “Around eight to ten psychiatrists were deployed to provide psychological support. There was a large crowd—around 700–800 people were present—many of them panicked. Our focus was on offering comfort as well as order,” he added.

The DNA sampling and counselling operations are being conducted at Kasauti Bhavan, where families can continue to visit for assistance.
