Mumbai, Maharashtra – Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Azmi has defended his remarks on Aurangzeb following his suspension from the Budget session of the Maharashtra Assembly, questioning why similar actions have not been taken against others who have allegedly insulted Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Azmi accused the BJP-led government of using the controversy for political gain.

“Prashant Koratkar and Rahul Solapurkar have insulted Shivaji Maharaj. They are still in Maharashtra. Why are they not being arrested?” Azmi asked, alleging selective enforcement by the state government.

He maintained that his comments were based on historical records and questioned the legitimacy of the action against him. “Whatever I have said is on record. If my statements are wrong, then what action is being taken against those who have written these things and continue to give speeches? If someone is making misleading claims, the government should take legal action against them. But if I simply repeated the words of historians, how can a case be filed against me?” he argued.

Azmi hinted at exploring legal or political options to challenge his suspension. “I will see what can be the way out of this. All this is happening only because the BJP government tries to benefit from such controversies,” he said.
