New Delhi: A moderate earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning, with its epicentre located in Jhajjar district, Haryana. The tremors, felt at around 9:04 AM, caused momentary alarm across the region but no damage or casualties have been reported.

According to RK Singh, a scientist at the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km, placing it in the category of shallow earthquakes, which are typically felt more strongly near the surface.

“At about 9:04 am, an earthquake occurred on Delhi's west side. The nearest fault in which it lies is between the Mahendragarh–Dehradun sub-surface fault, and the Delhi–Haridwar ridge is also nearby,” Singh said.

He added that while residents may have experienced light to moderate shaking, there was no cause for panic. “It was a moderate earthquake, so there is no need to panic. People may have felt some shaking but there is no danger of any damage.”
