BY A STAFF REPORTER: May Day is celebrated all over the world on May 1.  May Day is not celebrated in the United States and Canada.  There's a history behind it.  After the hay market massacre in Chicago in 1886, then-President Grover Cleveland thought that any event on May 1 could lead to a loss of life. That's why in 1887, labor day was celebrated on the first Monday in September instead of May 1.  Similarly, in 1894, Prime Minister John Spurr and David Thomson declared the first Monday in September as Canada's official Labor Day. Today, May 1 is celebrated as 'Labor Day' in China, North Korea, Cuba and other countries.
