It's also called May Day. May 1 is a national holiday in about 80 countries around the world. Government offices, private institutions, schools and colleges are closed on this day. Hidden in the history of May Day celebrations is the story of the life of the workers at Hay Market in Chicago, USA. The year is 1886. At that time, labor unrest was large. The workers staged a sit-in protest demanding eight hours of work hours per day and improving the quality of life of the workers. That's where they were shot. Many workers died. But the movement did not stop. In the end, the workers established their rights. Since 1894, Labor Day has been declared a holiday. Since then, International Workers' Day has been celebrated.
