Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's dreams of Olympic glory came to an unexpected halt on August 7 when she was disqualified from the women's 50kg wrestling category. The news, confirmed by the Indian Olympic Association, shocked Indian sports fans and dampened hopes for a medal.

In a statement that morning, the association said, "It is regrettable that the Indian team has informed us that Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the 50kg class. Despite the team's efforts throughout the night, she remained a few grams over the weight limit this morning." The Indian team refrained from further comments at the time.

This disqualification overshadowed Vinesh's earlier stellar performances that had brought her close to the final match, where she was expected to compete for a medal. Her journey had inspired many, especially following her protests against BJP leader Brij Bhushan over allegations of inappropriate behavior towards women wrestlers. Many believed her fight on the mat was a symbolic extension of her activism.

However, the weight-related disqualification ended her Olympic campaign abruptly, leaving fans and supporters disheartened. Despite this setback, Vinesh Phogat's resilience and contributions to Indian wrestling continue to inspire athletes across the nation.
