ECI Rejects Bengal BJP Candidate Debashish Dhar's Nomination

BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a blow to the BJP, the Election Commission of India rejected former IPS officer and BJP Candidate from Birbhum, Debashir Dhar's nomination for the Lok Sabha elections on April 26, Friday.

The BJP fielded Debtanu Bhattacharya as its second candidate from the Birbhum constituency. Days after his resignation, the BJP nominated former IPS Officer Debashish Dhar from Birbhum, West Bengal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in its 8th list of candidates on March 30, Saturday. 

A 2010 batch IPS officer from the WBPSC, Debashish Dhar tendered his resignation on March 21, Thursday, citing 'personal reasons'. Moreover, he was serving as the Superintendent of Police in the Coochbehar district. Furthermore, he was suspended in 2021 following the Sitalkuchi firing incident during the West Bengal Assembly Elections. Four people were killed in the incident.
