‘Sampriti – Harmony’ The Annual Day of Bhavan’s G. K. Vidyamandir

On 10th December 2023, the secondary wing of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised their annual prize distribution and cultural programme- ‘Sampriti’.

BY A STAFF REPORTER:  On 10th December 2023, the secondary wing of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised their annual prize distribution and cultural programme- ‘Sampriti’. The event was graced by the presence of Honourable Justice (retd.) Subrata Talukdar, Calcutta High Court, and Professor Amlan J. Pal, Director of UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research and J. C. Bose National Fellow. The presence of Dr. Bikram Sarkar, IAS (retd.), Chairman (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kolkata Kendra), and Vice Chairman Shri Raj Kumar Chhajer added charm to the event.

The programme started with an invocation by chanting a ‘Bhrama Stotram’, followed by a Ganesh Vandana. The ceremonial light was lit by the chief guests and other dignitaries. The encouraging words of the Director, Dr. G.V. Subramanian, in his welcome address were motivating for both students and teachers. Then the Principal, Mr. Arun Kumar Dasgupta presented the principal’s report, detailing all the achievements of the school and the individual students throughout the year. The day also saw the release of the Annual School Magazine ‘Ripples’. After which the dignitaries were felicitated and then the prize distribution ceremony began. Prizes were awarded in diverse categories and did not only focus on academics. Next, a few alumni of the school who are now renowned in their respective fields were felicitated. Some also joined the event online. This definitely was very motivating to the current students. In this regard the Principal, Mr. Arun Kr. Dasgupta said, “The annual day of BGKV Kolkata, is an amalgamation of celebrations, recognising the achievement of the school and it's students, felicitating the success of Ex-Bhavanities, reunion of teachers and students, with a touch of melodious tunes and resplendent dance performances.” Finally, the vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Monami Chatterjee.

Next a brief cultural programme followed. The students presented a musical rendition ‘Geetmala’ which focused on the adaptation of various Bengali songs into Hindi film songs by reputed music directors. The songs ranged from Rabindrasangeet to popular Bengali bands like Mohiner Ghora Guli. The cheering crowd soon joined the singers and enjoyed a trip down the memory lane. Soon the crowd was tapping their feet to the Rhythms of India which represented the cultural diversity of India through various dance forms, including both Indian classical as well as Indian folk-dance forms. Students in beautiful coloured costumes, performing Bharatnatyam, Kathakali, Kathak, Odissi, Bihu, Naga, Garba, and Bhangra, truly represented national integration. The closing dance brought the various cultures of India together on stage, representing the essence of unity in diversity. The programme finally ended with National Anthem.
