Souraditya Narayan Patranabis, Student (Class- 12-A1), BGKV: On the 8th of May 2024, the whole world commemorated the 163rd birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Immortal to this date through his writings and musical creations, the Bard of Bengal was the first Asian Nobel laureate in the field of literature. On the 10th of May 2024, the students of BGKV sought to showcase their creativity by paying tribute to Tagore through a cultural program.

The program commenced with a wonderful rendition of an inspirational Tagore poem by the student anchors of the program, followed by an instrumental segment, signifying how Gurudev was inspired by the western Classical music in his own creations. The original tune was played first, followed by the Tagorean version of the song. Then there was a recitation of a popular Tagore poem for the children, ‘Lukochuri’ translated in Hindi to make it reach a wider range of people.

The final segment of the program was paying homage to Tagore’s creations to summon the colours of spring. Through a recitation, a singing performance, and multiple dances, the students narrated a story showing his love for the season. This was followed by an open house where students from the audience performed song and dance which was appropriate for the occasion and hugely appreciated by everyone present in the auditorium. The philosophy and visions of Rabindranath Tagore (Thakur) will always inspire us to be sensitive and better citizens of the world.
