BY A STAFF REPORTER: The shocking incident of open vandalism at Anandapur in East Kolkata has exposed chinks in the armour of Kolkata police. A motley group of people waylaid restaurants and tore down vehicles parked on the roadside after a dispute with a section of the staff. Locals across the city decried the deteriorating law and order in Kolkata claiming that such open ended mob violence and goonda raj are becoming more frequent.

Anandapur locals directly accused the East division of Kolkata police, claiming that there are quite a few bars and restaurants along the stretch where the incident took place and drunken brawls are common but police are lackadaisical.

``Why were there no PCR vans in the vicinity? What action has the police taken after drunken brawls,'' a local resident asked. ``The police are hand in gloves,'' he added. When ANM News reached the area to speak to local residents, almost everyone accused the police of not taking appropriate action.
