By a Staff Reporter: Security personnel at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata recovered a small quantity of ganja (marijuana) from a catering vehicle belonging to Oberoi Flight Service Pvt. Ltd. during a routine security check on Saturday morning.
At around 10:50 AM, a High Lift Vehicle (registration no. WB-23G-1409), driven by Mr. Shambhu Roy (48), arrived at the Operational Gate No. 05 for entry into the airport’s apron area. The vehicle was being used for in-flight catering services.
During the mandatory security inspection of the cabin, CT/GD Rakesh Kumar Sahoo, under the supervision of Inspector/Executive Firoz Khan of the CISF Airport Security Group (ASG), discovered approximately 10 grams of ganja wrapped in paper hidden beneath the driver’s seat.

When questioned, driver Shambhu Roy, a resident of Subhash Nagar, Barasat, North 24 Parganas, claimed he was unaware of the presence of the contraband and failed to provide any satisfactory explanation.
Following the discovery, the driver, along with the vehicle and the seized substance, was handed over to the NSCBI Airport Police Station for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Acknowledging the alertness and professionalism displayed by the security team, the Inspector in charge of Gate No. 05 and the checking officer have been recommended for commendation and reward for their vigilance.
Authorities emphasized that routine checks and strict surveillance are crucial to maintaining airport security and preventing the movement of illegal substances within operational areas.
