CISF Sector Headquarters, Kolkata Takes Stringent Action to Curb Illegal Coal Mining in Mugma Area

By a staff reporter, Kolkata: In a decisive move to tackle the growing menace of illegal coal mining, CISF Sector Headquarters, Kolkata, has initiated stringent enforcement measures in the Mugma area from 10 th Nov to 12 th Nov 2025.

According to reliable sources, the action comes after reports of rampant unauthorized extraction and transportation of coal from the region, causing significant loss to government revenue and posing serious environmental and safety risks.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, joint teams from CISF Sector / Zonal Headquarters carried out a series of coordinated operations in and around Mugma. These operations targeted illegal mining sites, coal dumps, and transportation routes suspected of being used for smuggling activities. 

Officials from the Sector Headquarters & Zonal Headquarters , Kolkata, emphasized that such activities not only deplete natural resources but also endanger the lives of local residents due to unsafe mining practices. The crackdown aims to dismantle the network of operators involved in the illegal trade and to restore lawful mining operations in the area.
Authorities have also strengthened surveillance and patrolling in the Mugma under ECL  to prevent recurrence of such illegal activities.
