According to meteorologists, the cyclone monster 'Remal' may hit somewhere between Sagar Island and Khepupara. Earlier on May 26, 2021, Cyclone 'Yaas' made landfall. After three years, there is a threat of a cyclone again on the same day.
Amidst the threat of a cyclone, an orange warning of storms and rain has been issued in several districts, keeping in mind the possible disaster. The storm can blow at a speed of 100 km per hour in tropical areas. A storm surge may also be seen in Kolkata and adjoining areas. An 80-kilometer-per-hour storm may blow in Kolkata city. A deep depression has already gathered over the ocean. This deep depression will intensify into a cyclonic storm tomorrow. Then it will move north towards Bengal and the coast of Bangladesh.
There is a forecast of disaster in the district starting Saturday due to the threat of a cyclone. Heavy rain is forecast in East Medinipur, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas districts. Besides, gusty winds of up to 50 km per hour can blow in coastal areas. After that, heavy to very heavy rain is likely over Kolkata and Howrah on Sunday. A wind speed of 90–100 km per hour is likely to occur in South and North 24 Pargana. The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy rain in Hooghly, East and West Medinipur, East Burdwan, and Nadia districts.
