BY A STAFF REPORTER:

Bidhannagar police has once again failed to maintain steady traffic flow on the busy and important VIP Road with vehicles standing bumper to bumper for a very long time at various stretches. According to residents and locals who availed of the VIP road while returning home from Airport or going to catch a flight, it took more than two hours to cross the stretch between Kaikhali to Ultadanga flyover, a distance which usually takes half an hour.

``I had to go through an agonising one and half hour traffic snarl near Lake Town and Bangur as vehicles came to a standstill and there were no senior officers on sight,'' Santosh Bhagat who was returning by evening flight from Varanasi said. Bidhannagar traffic police officials claimed that they are incapacitated by lack of resources and training of men and ``does not have the capability to handle such massive volumes of traffic.''  Unofficially, police officers urged residents to leave with ``enough time in hand'' to reach Airport in time.
