Missing in action: Bidhannagar police officer taken to task

According to an internal communique, the traffic inspector was not present at the spot when the accident happened and on enquiry it was found out that he had gone to his house in Howrah without permission.

A senior traffic police officer was found missing in action after a road traffic accident in Sector V in Bidhannagar.

 The officer identified as traffic inspector of Nabadiganta, Gautam Pal, allegedly had gone to his house in Belur in Howrah without informing police commissioner of Bidhanangar Gaurav Sharma, has been censured and ``ACP (assistant commissioner of police) traffic has been directed to take up the case personally for investigation."

 

The incident occured a couple of days earlier and few persons were injured in the accident. According to an internal communique, the traffic inspector was not present at the spot when the accident happened and on enquiry it was found out that he had gone to his house in Howrah without permission. According to policemen posted at Nabadiganta traffic office, the inspector known to be favourite of a senior officer currently posted in Bidhannagar traffic police, is hardly on the road despite heavy rush of traffic in Sector V, College More and surrounding areas.

The traffic is mostly manned by civic volunteers and constables with none of the senior officers supervising even in peak times.
