BY A STAFF REPORTER: Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised its annual exhibition on the 7th and 8th of December 2023. The chief guest, Professor Basab Chaudhuri, Senior Director (Education) inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Professor Chaudhuri’s encouraging words highly motivated the students. Respected Director Dr. G.V. Subramanian and Deputy Director Smt. Sujata Ghosh graced the occasion with their presence. After the inaugural session, Prof. Chaudhuri visited every department taking part in the exhibition.

The active participation of a large number of students across all classes and the uncountable visitors made this two-day exhibition a grand success. Not only the parents and ex-students but also the students and teachers of various neighbouring schools thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition. All the departments put up their exhibits in different rooms.

Along with the academic subjects like science, social science, mathematics, and language subjects, multidisciplinary subjects like sports, arts, and nutrition also showcased their exhibits.

Different subjects had different essences. History exhibited several charts and models portraying different civilizations, various socio-political movements, and historically important monuments and temples.

Geography on the other hand put up models based on regional as well as physical geography. Few of the models were functional as well. They had a live soil testing booth and a functional model showing rainwater harvesting which caught the attention of many. The students in the mathematics exhibition made various models showing the real-life applications of geometry, arithmetic, etc. They also arranged for some fun mathematical games which were enjoyed by the visitors.

The physics department demonstrated various working models explaining different laws and principles. It also had a dark room and a working turbine. The chemistry room was indeed an entertaining one. They set up various chemical reactions that we come across in our daily lives without knowing the science behind them. The students also presented different reactions in a fun and dramatic way like a saint showing his magical powers. The computer room engrossed the students and their parents with robots and the magic of AI.

While the Bengali department focused on the centennial celebration of Sukumar Ray’s remarkable work Abol Tabol, the Hindi department depicted different ages of Hindi literature. The English room was a different world in itself. It transported the visitors into a world of fantasy and adventure; transcended them to Wordsworthian bliss and then brought them back to reality with horrors of war.

The enthusiasm of the students, parents, and guests turned BGKV’s annual exhibition into a carnival. This was a great learning experience for the students who gained knowledge by breaking away from the mundaneness of their classroom.

This exhibition was not only academically enriching but it also taught students important moral values like teamwork. Above all, this exhibition was an exemplary instance of art-integrated learning, which is one of the primary focus of NEP 2020.
