There are many types of stories and beliefs associated with the celebration of the festival of Diwali from Hinduism. The most popular of these beliefs is that Lord Rama returned to the city of Ayodhya after conquering Lanka on the new moon day of Kartik month. After reaching there, the people of Ayodhya welcomed him by lighting ghee lamps. It is also believed that the goddess Lakshmi was born on this day after the churning of the sea. Some believe that on this day the Pandavas returned after 12 years of exile, while others consider it the day of the coronation of King Vikramaditya.
