The 2024 IPL season was a triumphant one for KKR, as they secured their third championship. According to IPL regulations, the defending champion’s home ground hosts the opening match of the new season. This year, Eden Gardens will witness the first clash on March 22, where KKR will take on Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The match will follow a grand opening ceremony, setting the stage for a thrilling tournament.
Shah Rukh Khan-owned KKR’s victory last season has also secured Eden Gardens a prestigious role in this year’s IPL. Apart from the opening match, the venue will also host Qualifier 2 and the much-awaited final. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the runners-up from last season, will see more matches played at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, including Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator.
