Zermatt is a municipality town located in the south of Switzerland, at the foothills of the majestic Mt. Matterhorn. The town glows up at night reflecting the snow, making it look just like the hometown of 'Santa Claus' Time to visit- Winter is the best time to visit this place for snow activities. You can also opt for the summer months to hike. How to reach- Even though the nearest airport is Sion, the more convenient options will be Zurich and Geneva Airports and from there you will get a train to Zermatt. Since it is also very near to the Italian Border, you can also come via Turin or Milan. Once you reach there, Zermatt is car-free. You will find electric shuttle taxis to take you to your accommodation. Things to do- 1. Explore the beautiful town, go shopping in the Zermatt Main Street, and have some of their famous cheese fondue and hot chocolate in one of the Michelin star eateries out there with the best views of Mt. Matterhorn. If you are here in winter, then hop on the best ski slopes for an experience of a lifetime. 2. Take a train to Gornegrat. It is the world's first fully electrified cog railway. Starting from Zermatt town, it is a 40-minute ride through alpine forests and lakes, which are frozen in winter, to the highest point of Gornegrat (3089m). Here you get panoramic views of the Gorne Glacier, Mt. Matterhorn, and many other important peaks of Switzerland including the highest one called Monte Rosa. 3. Visit the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise at Klien Matterhorn for breath-taking ice sculptures inside a fully ice-made museum. You will have to take a cable car from Zermatt. Don't forget to visit Europe's highest platform for stunning 360° views and have lunch at the highest mountain station restaurant out there.
