Kathmandu — The United States has welcomed the appointment of Sushila Karki as the Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government, describing it as a significant step toward restoring stability and preparing for fresh elections.
In a statement shared on social media, US Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson said, “Rt. Hon. Sushila Karki has been appointed as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. We welcome the restoration of calm and a peaceful resolution following last week’s tragic events.”
Ambassador Thompson commended President Ramchandra Paudel and youth leaders for pursuing a democratic path amid the crisis. He also expressed condolences over recent losses, while acknowledging the role of security forces in stabilizing the situation. “We recognize the Nepali Army and Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel for their vital role in restoring order and facilitating a peaceful transition of civilian government,” he said.
