During a briefing on President Joe Biden's upcoming meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stressed the importance of India stepping up in support of Ukraine's sovereignty amidst Russia's ongoing war. Sullivan mentioned that the discussion will cover various sensitive topics, including India’s stance on Russia and China.
While not delving into specifics, Sullivan reiterated the US position on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, calling it a violation of international law. He highlighted the need for countries, including India, to avoid supporting Russia's war efforts. "The United States has been clear about our view that Russia's brutal war of aggression against Ukraine flouted every norm and principle of international law," Sullivan said, urging India to support the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting is also expected to touch upon China's regional actions, including economic and technological challenges, and the ongoing efforts to align strategies between the two nations. Sullivan remarked that the talks will provide an opportunity for both leaders to share their perspectives on global security and the path forward.
