By a Staff Reporter : Eight men have been arrested in two separate counter-terrorism operations across the UK, with seven of them confirmed to be Iranian nationals, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Arrest

In the first operation, five individuals were detained from different parts of England—Swindon, West London, Stockport, Rochdale, and Manchester. Authorities stated that there was an alleged plot to target a specific location. Four of the suspects were arrested under the Terrorism Act, while one was held under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE). All five remain in police custody.

In the second operation, three more Iranian nationals were arrested from separate addresses in northwest and west London. Their ages are 39, 44, and 55. These arrests were made under the National Security Act. Police confirmed that the two operations are not connected.

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, stated that the investigations are still at an early stage and multiple lines of inquiry are being pursued. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Police

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Health Secretary Wes Streeting both thanked the police and intelligence services for their swift action. They emphasized that such operations demonstrate the UK’s ongoing commitment to national security.
