London, June 13 — As tensions in the Middle East reach a critical juncture following widespread Israeli airstrikes across Iran, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has issued a public appeal for calm, urging all involved parties to step back from further escalation.
In a strongly worded post on social media, PM Starmer said:
“The reports of these strikes are concerning and we urge all parties to step back and reduce tensions urgently. Escalation serves no one in the region. Stability in the Middle East must be the priority and we are engaging partners to de-escalate. Now is the time for restraint, calm and a return to diplomacy.”
Starmer's comments come hours after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the elimination of top Iranian military officials—including the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces and the Commander of the IRGC—in a series of strikes involving over 200 fighter jets.
While Israel has defended the strikes as necessary national security actions, global leaders have warned that further aggression could lead to a broader regional conflict with unpredictable consequences.
