New Delhi: The contentious exchange between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a "defining moment" in the Ukraine war, according to Pankaj Saran, Convenor of NatStrat and a member of India’s National Security Advisory Board (NSAB).
Saran emphasized the historical significance of the spat, stating, "It was a defining moment, a turning point in the Ukraine war, and it will go down in history as that conversation which shook the world, which shook Europe, it shook Russia, and it shook the United States."
Highlighting the gravity of the exchange, Saran remarked that the nature of the conversation was "unprecedented," as it played out in the full glare of global media. He noted that such an open display of differences and argumentation between two heads of state was rare and "dangerous."
From India's perspective, Saran reiterated the country’s consistent stance on promoting peace and diplomacy. "We have always hoped that there will be peace, that there will be a ceasefire, and that the war will come to a stop," he said.
The Trump-Zelenskyy spat, which gained worldwide attention, underscored the deep geopolitical fractures in the ongoing conflict and raised concerns about its implications for international diplomacy. Experts continue to analyze its potential impact on global alliances and the future of the Ukraine war.
