New Delhi: The heated exchange between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former U.S. President Donald Trump at the Oval Office has sparked global debate. Former Indian diplomat Rajiv Dogra believes Trump’s remarks about Zelenskyy pushing the world into another war were likely made "in the heat of the moment."
"Trump saying that there is a risk of Zelenskyy continuing this way and pushing the world into another war was perhaps in the heat of the moment. I don't think he probably envisages that the Russia-Ukraine war will develop into a world war even if Europe gets involved," Dogra said.
He argued that a global conflict is unlikely unless the larger world beyond the West is drawn in. "The world at large is not concerned about what the West's problems are; the world has its own problems to think of. So, world war can start only if the larger world gets involved," he added.
Commenting on India's position, Dogra reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance that "this is not the age of war, this is the age of development and peace." He suggested that India is unlikely to be satisfied with the outcome of the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting.
