Washington, 16 August — Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that his recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and several European leaders, including NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, were “very successful” in exploring a possible path to end the war in Ukraine.

In a post on his social media handle, Trump said he had a “great and very successful day in Alaska,” during which he met Putin and held a late-night phone call with Zelenskyy, as well as conversations with European leaders. According to him, there was broad agreement that “the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often does not hold up.”

Trump added that Zelenskyy is expected to visit Washington and meet him at the Oval Office on Monday afternoon. Should the talks progress positively, a meeting with Putin would then be scheduled.

“Potentially, millions of people’s lives will be saved,” Trump wrote, expressing optimism about the possibility of a negotiated settlement.
