Washington: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced an ambitious new immigration initiative — the “Trump Gold Card,” a high-value visa category aimed at attracting global talent and offering recipients a pathway to American citizenship. The programme, positioned as a premium immigration channel, requires a minimum investment of one million dollars and is designed for individuals who can provide “substantial benefit” to the United States.
Unveiling the initiative at a White House event, Trump said the current system forces highly skilled international students, particularly from India and China, to leave the US after completing their studies. “It’s a shame that students from India and China, some of the brightest in the world, have to go back after graduating. We train them in our best universities, and then we send them away. That should never happen,” he said.
The Gold Card seeks to reverse this trend by offering long-term residency options to those who demonstrate exceptional talent, economic value or strategic potential. According to the administration, the new visa class will prioritise innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and high-skilled professionals capable of contributing significantly to national growth.
