BY A STAFF REPORTER: At least 22 people were killed in Congo's Kasai-Central province on Tuesday after heavy rains destroyed infrastructure, authorities in the town of Kananga said. Landslides have destroyed houses, churches and roads and left people homeless.

"The Kananga commune has been the hardest hit," Governor John Cabea said. '

The provincial government said in a statement it would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the material damage.

Kananga Mayor Rose Muadi Musube said most of the deaths were caused by collapsed walls of houses built on unsuitable land. '
