BY A STAFF REPORTER: Syrian air defenses on Sunday repelled an Israeli missile attack in the central part of the country and shot down most of the missiles.

The military said in a statement that the missiles flew over parts of the Lebanese capital Beirut hit areas around the city of Homs.

An Israeli military spokesman said an anti-aircraft missile fired at Israel from inside Syrian territory exploded in mid-air.
