Delhi: Sri Lanka's State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tharaka Balasuriya, praised the informal nature of the recent BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) foreign ministers' retreat. "It took a very informal setting where each foreign minister was able to give the opening remarks," Balasuriya noted, highlighting the opportunity for candid and open exchanges. He emphasized the importance of connectivity in the region, aligning with PM Modi's assessment that increased connectivity not only between Sri Lanka and India but also extending to Myanmar and Thailand, could significantly boost business opportunities.

"It was well organized, and the informal setting allowed us to share our ideas candidly and openly," he added, underscoring the potential for enhanced cooperation and economic flow in the region.
