By A Staff Reporter — President Pedro Sánchez of Spain is in India for a historic visit, marking the first official visit by a Spanish President in nearly 20 years. Invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sánchez’s visit signals growing cooperation between the two nations, focusing on defense, trade, and cultural ties. Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Tanmaya Lal, described the visit as “landmark” and highlighted the day's key events.
The day began with a ‘shobha yatra’ in Vadodara, where both leaders participated in a ceremonial procession. This was followed by a joint inauguration of the Tata Aircraft Complex, a significant new venture set to produce the C-295 military transport aircraft in India. The project aligns with India’s defense goals and Spain’s aerospace industry, marking a milestone in bilateral relations.
After their engagements in Vadodara, President Sánchez and his delegation headed to Mumbai, where a series of high-level meetings are scheduled for the next day, focusing on trade and investment opportunities. Lal emphasized that the visit reinforces India and Spain's shared commitment to strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation across strategic sectors.
