New Delhi, 16 August — South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, on an official visit to India, held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday, reaffirming Seoul’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with New Delhi across multiple fronts.
Cho, recalling his earlier interactions with Jaishankar when he was Foreign Secretary, said, “It was a good meeting. We discussed various issues and explored ways to enhance our bilateral relationship, addressing both the geopolitical and geo-economic challenges our countries face.”
Responding to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Cho offered firm support to India. “We are very stern and firm on this issue. We are strongly against any terrorist attack. We stand by the Indian government and the people of India,” he said, underscoring South Korea’s position against terrorism.
On global trade issues, Cho also commented on tariffs imposed by then US President Donald Trump, describing them as part of a shifting economic environment. “This is something not unexpected given the rapidly changing situation in global trade. We were able to sort out a problem and make a win-win through these negotiations, and we were able to strike a deal that will again lead us to a win-win proposal,” he stated.
