Five children and a man are missing after a fire broke out in a house on Russell Island, about 60 kilometres (37 miles) southeast of Brisbane, in the early hours of Sunday.

"The house was completely destroyed and several nearby properties were damaged," police said in a statement. Two people have been admitted to the hospital in stable condition. At least 20 firefighters are trying to douse the blaze. "
