Terrible! 7 killed in building collapse

BY A STAFF REPORTER: At least seven people have been killed when a six-storey building under construction collapsed in Ivory Coast's commercial capital Abidjan.

Caretaker and builder Jordyn Yoro said workers suddenly heard cracks and the building began to collapse around them.

"We all started running in a hurry," Yoro said. The building collapsed within about 45 seconds. ' 

Rescue operations are underway saturday in Abidjan's Riviera Palmerai district, and emergency workers are searching for huge piles of collapsed concrete and debris.

"Nine more people were injured in the building collapse," said Charles Paolo, chief of the fire unit who was at the scene. '
