BY A STAFF REPORTER: Russia fired 12 drones and a cruise missile into Ukraine overnight, and Ukrainian air defenses destroyed 10 drones before they reached their targets.
The cruise missile was not destroyed, but did not reach its target, the air force said. It is not known what happened to the two drones.
The Iranian-made Shahed drones were heading to northwestern Ukraine. Most of them were shot down in the Mykolaiv region of southern Ukraine. There were no immediate reports of damage to the wreckage or undestroyed drones.
