LONDON, June 12 — Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, expressed his grief and solidarity following the devastating crash of an Air India flight that claimed over 200 lives earlier today near Ahmedabad, India. The London-bound aircraft was carrying 242 people when it crashed minutes after takeoff, killing passengers and residents in the area.
Taking to social media, Sunak wrote:
“Akshata and I are deeply shocked and distressed by the news of the Air India tragedy. There is a unique bond between our two nations and our thoughts and prayers go out to the British and Indian families who have lost loved ones today.”
The Air India flight was en route to Gatwick Airport and carried passengers of multiple nationalities, including 169 Indians and 53 Britons. Among the deceased were adults, children, and infants, making it one of the most tragic air disasters in recent memory.
