New Delhi — In a significant development for Indo-Russian defence cooperation, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with Russian Defence Minister Andrey Belousov on June 26. The high-level dialogue, described by the Ministry of Defence as one of the most critical recent interactions, came against the strategic backdrop of Operation Sindoor and India’s push to rapidly enhance its defence capabilities.

The Russian Defence Minister underscored the enduring and time-tested ties between the two nations and expressed strong solidarity with India over the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22, calling it a “horrendous and cowardly act.”

According to the Defence Ministry, the meeting placed particular emphasis on strengthening defence production cooperation, especially in the realm of high-priority systems such as air defence, air-to-air missile systems, and upgrades of existing air platforms.
